A sump pump is a great asset for any home with a basement, especially one that tends to flood. Here are a few tips to make buying your new pump easier.

1. Go to major building supply stores to get prices. Also call a plumber or waterproofing contractor to get prices.

2. Units can be between 1/3 horse power and ½ horsepower. They can also have a pumping capacity of 2,200 to 3,000 gallons per hour. Decide which is right for you by considering how big your basement is and what your needs are.

3. If your home often experiences power lose due to storms, it is best to also buy a battery powered backup for your pumping unit
