Learn how to prevent basement flooding by installing a sump pump. Here you can find an easy step-by-step guide to Sump Pump Installation:

  1. The first step is to find a location where the water collects. Note: this location needs to be near a GFCI (Ground Fault Interrupter Outlet) for the sump pump to be plugged into. If you don't have a plug near the install site, have a certified electrician install one.
  2. Dig a hole six inches deeper and 10 inches wider than the sump tank.
  3. Place three inches of gravel in the bottom of the hole.
  4. Place the tank into the hole.
  5. Stand in the sump, then pour more gravel around the it leaving one or two inches at the top of the tank exposed.
